Richard Peter Snapes is a baker with a passion for all things sourdough. He grew up in rural Northamptonshire and worked as a musician and chef prior to specialising in baking. He started The Snapery Bakery in 2014 when his home baking passion could no longer be contained by a domestic oven. Since then, the bakery has gone from strength to strength with one simple aim: bring better bread to as many people as possible.
Richard has always felt a connection to nature and echoes this in the simplicity of his products, which rarely contain anything more than good quality flour, water and salt. He is keen supporter of the Slow Food movement (each loaf takes more than 24 hours to produce) and is always looking to adapt and create new ways to experience bread.
Based in Bermondsey, he supplies many of the local bars and restaurants with his unique loaves, made from a starter catalysed by Ukrainian hop flowers. He can be found on Saturdays at Maltby Street market or busying away in the bakery.
